2 Morphological LDs with HST WFPC

چکیده
Evolution of the morphological luminosity distributions within rich clusters (0.0 < z < 0.55) We demonstrate the ability to recover morphological luminosity distributions (LDs) within medium redshift clusters (z ∼ 0.55) based on Hubble Space Telescope WFPC2 observations. We postulate that a detailed survey of the morphological LDs in local, low and medium redshift clusters may provide strong constraints on the modes of galaxy evolution in rich clusters. Preliminary results suggest that in clusters, as also seen in the field, very strong evolution (i.e. ∆m ≈ 2.5 mags since z = 0.55) is occurring in the late-type spiral and irregular populations.

Spectra of Cluster Galaxies at Z ∼ 0.4
The “MORPHS” group has obtained an extensive spectroscopic dataset of galaxies in the fields of 10 rich clusters at 0.37 < z < 0.56; the stellar population properties of about 700 objects have been determined from a detailed analysis of spectral line strenghts and colours, up to a galactic absolute magnitude MV = −20.3 mag. Morphological informations for a consistent fraction of our sample have...
متن کاملNGC 1866 : New analysis from HST - WFPC 2 observations of the inner regions
We report new results on the LMC globular cluster NGC 1866 obtained by analyzing F555W and F814W images from WFPC2@HST. On the basis of the CMD we derive information on the cluster distance and constraints on stellar evolution theory. Evidences of mass segregation are found in the cluster core.

The kinematic and morphological properties of a string of [Ar III] bright knots in the Crab Nebula are examined using 1994 – 1999 HST WFPC-2 images of the remnant. We find that five southern [Ar III] bright knots exhibit ordinary radial motions away from the nebula’s center of expansion with magnitudes consistent with their projected radial displacements. This result does not support the sugges...
متن کاملCombining Undersampled Dithered Images
Undersampled images, such as those produced by the HST WFPC-2, misrepresent fine-scale structure intrinsic to the astronomical sources being imaged. Analyzing such images is difficult on scales close to their resolution limits and may produce erroneous results. A set of “dithered” images of an astronomical source generally contains more information about its structure than any single undersampl...
متن کاملHST Imaging of the Host Galaxies of Three X - Ray Selected
Hubble Space Telescope (HST) WFPC-2 I-band (F814W) images of three X-ray selected BL Lacertae objects (MS 1221.8+2452, MS 1407.9+5954, & MS 2143.4+0704) reveal that each of these BL Lac objects is well-centered in an extended nebulosity that is consistent in brightness and morphology with being light from an elliptical galaxy at the previously reported redshifts of these BL Lac objects. Each of...
